WHEN THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: A FEEL GOOD MOMENT FOR ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIM

Kamiela Abrahams is a genuine person – a caring person. It took five minutes in her company to know that she deeply respects and cares for others, that she has a lot of ambition and many dreams. She is also a devout Muslim, living in Delft. Her dreams were however severely compromised and almost destroyed, when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident on 8 September 2016, and she suffered an open fracture to her right leg.

What happened

It transpired that she was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband on a road undergoing road works. Another vehicle wanted to overtake a row of stationary vehicles and crashed into them. Both she and her husband were flung from the motorcycle. The impact twisted her foot badly and she immediately knew something was very wrong when she experienced an incredible amount of pain and went into severe shock in seeing her husband lying unconscious, suspecting he might be dead.

RAF makes a move

While at Tygerberg hospital undergoing an operation, she was directly approached by the Road Accident Fund soliciting her for her business so that they could quickly under settle her claim. She testifies that she felt completely overwhelmed and emotional and was not sure what to do while being coerced into making a decision this quickly. Her leg struggled to heal and she had to sacrifice her successful laundry and construction business while having to remain still for three months for the bone to grow back. Her husband also had 11 operations in 9 months due to his injuries and couldn’t work either. He lost 5 cm of his leg and his claim is also currently being settled. This was an incredibly difficult time for them both as Kamiela also found out she was pregnant during the time of the accident and between them, they had 7 children to look after.

Simpsons Attorneys to the rescue

Kamiela shares that Simpsons Attorneys came to their rescue and that she appreciates the emotional support received from Collette Julyan, her attorney, who assured her that she will receive adequate compensation for her pain and suffering. Simpsons also provided bridging finance so the family could buy a vehicle, to earn an income, while their Road Accident Fund claim was being settled. Both Kamiela and her husband are doing much better now and she is particularly looking forward to her future. From the monies that she has received from the Road Accident Fund, she aims to do a tourism course, invest in a tour bus and take tourists around the Cape, especially tourists from Dubai, since she is fluent in Arabic. We wish Kamiela, her husband and their business, Maraumsa Tours, well for the future. #AttorneysWithHeart
