In 1994 Simpsons Attorneys was founded by Willie Simpson and a receptionist posing as secretary, tea lady, filing clerk, etc. Although we initially delivered legal services of a general nature, Willie soon realised that his passion was to be found in personal injury work. As we only generate fees when we successfully finalise a claim the initial pressure of capital layout and cash flow was immense. Despite this we managed to excel in building a legal practice that delivered services and obtained compensation for clients beyond expectation.
We assisted assisted thousands of clients all over South Africa and often those living abroad in a variety of matters where other attorneys told them they did not have a claim or were not prepared to assist them at all. Simpsons ensured that they were always backed by a strong team of experts who were prepared to assist us in fighting for our clients to obtain the appropriate compensation. We thrived on the challenges that came our way and often took matters to the Supreme Court of Appeal where we were successful in extending the law relating to emotional shock where the claimant was not a blood relative of the injured.
This case is taught at many law faculties in South Africa as a ground-breaking case and lead to our slogan “We do not follow the law, we make the law“. Further confirmation of our fearlessness in taking matters to Court is that every matter where we took the Road Accident Fund to Court we obtained higher compensation than what was offered before the start of the trial.
After celebrating 20 years of existence Willie established a new company under the name of SIMPSONS ATTORNEYS INCORPORATED, changing the logo and appointing two new directors, Collette Julyan and Tamlyn Melville to take the company to the next level. This was possible by building a strong team of lawyers, professional assistants and supporting staff that operates within an excellent developed system to ensure the best services to clients. We also set up our own modern offices equipped with the most up to date technology to ensure efficiency all the time.
From starting off with one lawyer and one assistant our staff compliment has grown to 40 people which inter alia includes 6lawyers, a Chartered Account in control of our accounting department, a human resources officer and all the supporting staff that gets carefully selected to ensure that the quality of our services are maintained at our high standard.
